Hello Mainesongsters. We’ve recently got a contact list together of everyone who’s currently in the choir. And now everyone who’s on that list has also been registered as a user of the website, and will be able to see and download any of the scores. The (new improved) system should also have issued everyone with a new password to the site, and then sent the relevant info to you by email. The concert is Wednesday 22 March at 6pm for 1 hour duration.
Venue is the Castlemaine Presbyterian Church.

The Mathy Matt Show

Scott Sanders, composer, singer, teacher, entertainer, musician, mathematician and much loved stand-in choir meister, is working on a maths/musical/education show for Primary School students. This one-man extravaganza, The Mathy Matt Show is a stage show that travels from school to school, takes place in the classroom, and is designed to get essential maths education and mathematical inspiration into the heads of primary school kids at Just The Right Time.

Over the next year Scotty will be developing his material as he takes his show on the road,  presenting it to as many young students in as many places as he possibly can.

It takes time, care and huge effort to make something like this happen, so if you would like to help Scott get this astoundingly worthy venture up and running you can send him a micro seed-funding donation through his GoFundMe page.

Mainesong is continuing over the next 2 weeks, so please come and sing and enjoy.

Is anyone available to sing at the Yandoit carol service, Yandoit Uniting church, Sun 18th Dec.

Practice of songs and carols at the Uniting church chapel in Castlemaine, 7 – 9 p.m Tues 13th, and be at the Yandoit church around 5 p.m. on the Sun 18th?

Jane and James will be leading this event. The Yandoit community would appreciate it very much to have you there on their annual Christmas gathering, with rerfeshments outside afterwards. It is a lovely setting, and Santa comes as well. Suitable for your family and friends.

The Peaceful Night concert is on this wednesday evening, please come to the Uniting Church instead of the hall.

The concert begins at 7 and we will sing at about 8:30. Please arrive no later than 8 (but if you can, come and enjoy the whole concert).

Please wear something red – a shirt, blouse, scarf, handkerchief, etc…

We will be singing O Ciel da Terra, and Sister my Sister.

The term ‘fifth’ defines an interval or mathematical ratio which is the closest and most consonant non-octave interval. The circle of fifths is a sequence of pitches or key tonalities, represented as a circle, in which the next pitch is found seven semitones higher than the last. Musicians and composers use the circle of fifths to understand and describe the musical relationships among some selection of those pitches. The circle’s design is helpful in composing and harmonizing melodies, building chords, and modulating to different keys within a composition.[1]

At the top of the circle, the key of C Major has no sharps or flats. Starting from the apex and proceeding clockwise by ascending fifths, the key of G has one sharp, the key of D has 2 sharps, and so on. Similarly, proceeding counterclockwise from the apex by descending fifths, the key of F has one flat, the key of B♭ has 2 flats, and so on. At the bottom of the circle, the sharp and flat keys overlap, showing pairs of enharmonically equivalent key signatures.

Starting at any pitch, ascending by the interval of an equal tempered fifth, one passes all twelve tones clockwise, to return to the beginning pitch class. To pass the twelve tones counterclockwise, it is necessary to ascend by perfect fourths, rather than fifths. (To the ear, the sequence of fourths gives an impression of settling, or resolution. (see cadence))

A few us have expressed reservations about leaving the scores open to access by the whole planet, in that copyright is an issue that could get us in to trouble if things are left open in this way. It may not be likely, but it is a possibility. So I’ve restored the login/security on the Songs Gallery page and you’ll need to log in to see them. If you’ve misplaced your password the system will be able to supply you with a new one.
